Tortuga Music Festival x Rock The Ocean: Sustainability Event Initiatives to Execute the Most Sustainable Large-Scale Music Festival in the World
Welcome to the Conscious Content Clips blog: The Conscious Communications Blog
This is a place you can explore more of what Conscious Content Clips (CCC) is doing to support our sustainable business and environmental organization clients.
We have been lucky enough to work with well-known organizations as a budding marketing agency.
One of our clients, Rock The Ocean, is an ocean conservation nonprofit and industry leader, having raised over $6 million dollars for their partner organizations and universities.
They've been able to make such a big impact by hosting Tortuga Music Festival, the most sustainable large-scale music festival in the world, on Fort Lauderdale Beach in April since 2013.
A portion of ticket sales goes back to ocean conservation partner organizations and universities in the form of grants so they can execute vital projects.
Rock The Ocean puts so much time, energy, and resources into ensuring this 3-day festival is as sustainable as possible to not only protect this coastal area where the event is hosted, but to restore it and leave it better than they found it.
That’s why Rock The Ocean contracted Conscious Content Clips to not only help capture these moments but also tell the story of how Tortuga Music Festival secured the title of “Most Sustainable Large-Scale Music Festival in the World”.
Sustainability Initiatives at Tortuga Music Festival
At Tortuga Music Festival, you won’t see any plastic bottles used - in fact, you won’t see any single-use plastics.
No plastic drink cups, no straw wrappers, not even those clear temporary tattoo backings.
Everything from the entering fans to the vendors and food service are inspected to ensure single-use plastic is not on the premises.
Don’t you dare bring in a bottle of sunscreen, seriously, it’ll get confiscated by security…
But don’t worry either, Rock The Ocean always has a sunscreen partner with sunscreen dispensers throughout the festival.
All the decor is upcycled or reused from previous years. All contemporary signage and banners are recycled.
Pallets upon pallets of ice are brought in, and all the film plastic bags are specialty-recycled along with used zip ties, used gloves, and even the pallets themselves are donated to be reused and upcycled.
The entire festival runs on solar-powered batteries and diesel-powered generators.
There’s a 24/7 turtle patrol in case a turtle comes on the beach to nest, as it is turtle season.
All the golf carts are diesel-powered and are required not to idle, which wastes the most fuel.
There are so many sustainability initiatives, the attention to detail is unbelievable.
That’s why Conscious Content Clips was contracted to create a long-form video and a series of accompanying short-form videos to lay out all the sustainability initiatives at Tortuga Music Festival.
Because much of this is happening in plain sight, yet the Tortuga fans are so captivated by everything going on: the music, the drinks, the beach - that they often don’t notice these sustainable efforts.
Rock The Ocean does such a great job of integrating sustainable practices into the festival, the experience is seamless - and all the better for it!

CCC Long-Form Process
What goes into a Conscious Content Clips long-form video production? I’m glad you asked!
First, it starts with our team of professional videographers, Cassidy, Chris, and Katie, who shoot the shots on-site for the video visuals.
Soon after, Tommy, Project Manager & Creative Director, alongside our video editor, Bianca, worked on organizing the footage, labeling it, and preparing it for use.
With the input of Rock The Ocean, a vision was created, and our copywriter, Alexa, got to work on writing the script.
The script ended up being quite packed with info since Rock The Ocean has so many initiatives implemented each year.
Once the script was approved, it was recorded via voiceover by Tommy, supported by our in-house audio engineer, J’lin.
Bianca uses her video-editing magic to match the visuals to the voiceover, creating synergy with the words and flow.
One of our favorite personal touches is the original music on the video.
J’lin, audio engineer whiz, mixed together an amazing CCC-original.
The best part? It’s royalty-free because it’s our music.
He also added sound effects for emphasis, and Tommy added animations and text on-screen for added clarity and production value.
It might seem like a simple process, and that’s because we have an excellent team, each with their own skill set, to help bring this project to life.
In reality, it took SEVEN Conscious Content Clips team members to make this happen, as well as the collaboration from Annie and Tara at Rock The Ocean.
We had a blast making this long-form video and showing the world how much thought, intention, and implementation goes into Tortuga Music Festival.
Events Need Adequate Media Coverage
Hosting events can do wonders for your brand, your goals, and your mission, but if you’re not documenting it well, you’re leaving money on the table.
You should come away from an event with ample footage of your brand to repurpose for social media marketing, ads, and content for your website for months to come.
Media professionals know what shots to get, what will look good in post-production, and how to highlight your brand according to your vision.
The CCC team has experience recording for events as big as Tortuga Music Festival with over 100,000 attendees all weekend long to small brewery fundraisers, live painting competitions, and everything in between! We know how stressful and fast-paced events can be, sometimes, content becomes an afterthought.
Make the most of your event by hiring a team that can bring your vision to life, whether that means we record and you use the footage to create content, or we handle everything from capturing to creation.
